Drool-worthy concept takes the Ferrari 458 in an interesting design direction.
Just when we thought the Ferrari 458 Italia could look no better, a Dutch design firm has created a concept that will have anyone with eyes taking a second glance. Beautiful is an understatement.
The concept is the work of Ugur Sahin Design (USD). It borrows design cues from a number of rival supercars, including the sleek roof of a Koenigsegg, McLaren P1 rear end and a profile that looks somewhere between a Lamborghini and McLaren 650S.
In some ways you could argue the car seems a bit over-styled, but just look at those sizable curved arches that brush past circular rear lights on the way down to two twin-exhaust pipes. And the engine outlets look a bit like a spinal column. It commands your attention, there’s no doubt about that.
At the moment the concept is merely a set of renderings, which means it’s not actually real. If they actually built it, it might end up using Ferrari’s 562bhp 4.5-litre V8 engine, which helps the 458 Italia from 0 to 62mph in 3.4 seconds. It could, of course, get the tuned 592bhp version found in the 458 Italia Speciale.
Assuming the Dutch coach builder did bring the concept to production, which it may if we all make enough noise, expect to pay big money ─ the extensive design modifications are unlikely to come cheap and the 458 Italia commands a pretty penny on its own.
The design company’s previous work includes a restyled Alfa Romeo 12C GTS Concept and a Rolls-Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II, both of which are just as visually arresting, if not more so. Worth a look.
