Ferrari has unveiled the ‘GTC4Lusso’ – a facelifted version of the four-seater V12 FF supercar – ahead of its world premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March.
The GTC4Lusso looks largely like the outgoing FF, but it benefits from various design tweaks including a new front grille, new air vents on the rear wing and a roof-mounted rear spoiler, all of which make it more aerodynamic. Meanwhile the new steering wheel is smaller and therefore sportier.
Like the FF, the GTC4Lusso uses a 6.3-litre V12 that outputs 680bhp (up from 651bhp) and 514lb/ft (697Nm) of torque at 5,750rpm. 80 per cent of that huge portion of torque is available from just 1,750rpm, which explains its ability to go from 0-62mph three-tenths faster, at 3.4 seconds.
Top speed, meanwhile, is 335kmh, which for us Brits is 208mph. That’s 4mph faster than the old FF, not that many owners probably ever got close to the 200mph mark. Expect fuel economy to be around the 12mpg the thirsty FF gets.
The GTC4Lusso’s name is a nod to its ‘illustrious predecessors’, including the 330 GTC and its 2+2 sibling, the 330 GT, and the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso. ‘4’, in case you are unfamiliar with the FF, refers to the four seats in the cabin.
The GTC4Lusso is the first car Ferrari has made that combines rear-wheel steering with rear-wheel drive as part of its newly-patented 4RM-S system. Traction and stability is said to be improved, even on snowy, wet or slippery roads.
The GTC4Lusso will also debut Ferrari’s new infotainment platform, which is comprised of a 10.25-inch HD screen with ‘capacitive touch technology’ (touchscreen, basically).
Ferrari has designed the GTC4Lusso for a younger audience than usual, which is said to drive more miles than other owners of Ferrari ─ 30 per cent more, by the Italian manufacturer’s estimations.
For those who are unfamiliar with the four-seater Ferrari, it’s arguably one of the most marmite cars to come from Italy. It does, after all, look a bit like the equally bizarre BMW Z3M Coupe.
But anyone who’s had the fortune of driving it will tell you it’s one of the greatest performers ─ us included. And it seems fellow motoring journalist Chris Harris agrees because he risked financial ruin when he bought one. Car-spotter Shmee150 also has one.
