Fiat 500 Ron Arad has a 1957 500 drawn on the side because… why not?

Bored of the usual Fiat 500? Tired of being conventional? We introduce the Fiat 500 Ron Arad, possibly the strangest limited edition version of the supermini you are likely to ever see.

The Fiat 500 Ron Arad is most easily recognised by its black metallic paintjob with a white outlines of the original 500 on the side of the car, indicating just how much bigger modern-day cars have become.

But there are other indicators this is a special Fiat, including white door mirrors, glass sunroof, Poltrona Frau black leather seats with ivory trim, seven-inch TFT infotainment display, leather steering wheel with remote controls, automatic climate control, 16-inch alloy wheels and front fog lights.

Just 200 Ron Arad 500s will be built, each one accompanied by a 1:18 scale model you can keep in the box and hope it becomes valuable some day. A 69hp 1.2-litre engine makes the wheels move so no Abarth turbo fun here, unfortunately.

Ron Arad – for the less knowledgeable among us (we had never heard of him) – is an ‘Israeli-born industrial designer, architect and artist’ who happens to love the original Fiat 500, which is presumably why he now has his name attached to one.

He was the Head of Design Products Department at the Royal College of Art from 1997 to 2009. His architectural accomplishments include the Bauhaus Museum in Tel Aviv and the Design Museum Holon.

The Fiat 500 Ron Arad starts from £16,000 and is available now.
