Fiat 500S to offer sporty supermini thrills from £12,950

Back in March Fiat unveiled a sporty 500 supermini. Now we can reveal the price and full UK specs for the 500S, which has just gone on sale in the UK.

The Fiat 500S is based on the standard 2016 Fiat 500 but comes with a few extra bells and whistles, the most obvious of which is the bodystyling comprised a front and rear sports bumper, side skirts, rear spoiler and new alloy wheels.

It also gets Satin Graphite door handles, tailgate, mirror fairings and the aforementioned 15-inch alloys, which can be upgraded to 16-inch matt-black diamond versions for £200.

There are four engines to choose between, the cheapest of which is the 1.2-litre petrol with a whopping 69hp. 0-62mph takes years 12.9 seconds and the top speed is 99mph. Fuel economy and CO2 come in at up to 60.1mpg and 110g/km, respectively.

There’s also a 105hp 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol that manages 0-62mph in 10 seconds, the fastest of all models, and has the fastest top speed of 117mph. It will offer a claimed 67.3mpg and 99g/km. A six-speed manual is standard for this engine.

For the eco-minded driver, Fiat also offers a 1.3-litre MultiJet II with 95hp, 89g/km of CO2 and fuel economy of a claimed 83.1mpg combined. 0-62mph takes 10.7 seconds so it’s by no means the slowest.

Inside the 500S, owners can park their derriere on black sports seats and gaze up at black roof lining, both of which are said to contrast with the door panels and seat edges finished in either blue, white or yellow. Optional Frau leather for the interior can be specified for £850.

Another standard extra on the 500 S is the new version of Uconnect, which has a seven-inch high-definition display, DAB digital radio tuner and Bluetooth, USB and 3.5mm AUX connectivity. TomTom navigation is an extra £250.

An exclusive BeatsAudio system can also be specced for £300, if you want 440 watts of block-rocking beats potential. It is comprised seven speakers and a digital amplifier.

Standard safety equipment comes in the form of seven airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), ESC with Anti Slip Regulation (ASR), Hill Holder and Hydraulic Brake Assistance (HBA) to assist in the event of emergency braking.

The Fiat 500S costs from £12,950 for the 69hp 1.2-litre, £14,730 for the TwinAir 105hp and £15,350 for the 1.3-litre MultiJet II. A standard Fiat 500 starts from £11,050.
