Ford Fiesta ST200 is £22,745 of compact hatchback shenanigans

Ford has announced the UK price for its latest compact hot hatchback, the Fiesta ST200, which was first shown off at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The Ford Fiesta ST200 is based on the Fiesta ST but has 10 per cent more power and 20 per cent more torque, taking the totals to 200PS (197.3bhp) and 290NM (213.9lb/ft) of torque, respectively.

0-62mph takes 6.7 seconds and the top speed is 143mph, making it rather speedy for a compact hatchback and not that far off its bigger, meatier brother, the Focus RS. Not only that, the ST200 will go from 31 to 82mph in 5.2 seconds in fourth gear.

An extra 15PS and 30Nm of torque is available for 20 seconds when the overboost function is engaged, making its already potent 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol even more, erm, potent. As for efficiency, Ford claims the ST200 can manage up to 46.3mpg and 140g/km of CO2.

Other aspects inherited from the Fiesta ST include a 15mm lower ride height, a rear twist beam with 27 per cent better roll-stiffness, Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) and a wider front anti-roll bar.

The Fiesta ST200 also gets Enhanced Torque Vectoring Control (eTVC), which is designed to apply brake force on the inside front wheel to help reduce understeer and allow the ST200 to corner faster.

Three-mode Electronic Stability Control (ESC), meanwhile, lets the driver choose between full system intervention, wide-slip mode with limited intervention and full deactivation, depending on how much the driver wants the car to step in when pushing hard.

The ST200’s styling is largely similar to the Fiesta ST, save for the 17-inch matt black alloy wheels with polished rims, red-painted calipers and a unique Storm Grey external paint job.

Charcoal Recaro front seats with contrasting silver stitching, illuminated scuff plates and carbon fibre dashboard inserts help elevate the ST200’s interior.

278mm front discs and 253mm rear discs take care of braking, with a larger tandem brake master cylinder offering more stopping power than the standard Fiesta.

Ford of Europe product development vice president Joe Bakaj said: “The Fiesta ST is truly beloved by owners and critics. The ST200 takes this special drivers’ car to a new level of power and performance. We think it’s a future classic in the making.”

Prices start from £22,745 and orders are open now. Looks like Ford’s UK website is yet to be updated so you may need to be a bit patient.
