Ford Kuga ST-Line adds a Ford Performance flavour to the SUV

Ford has added a fourth model to the Kuga mid-sized sport utility vehicle in the form of the ST-Line, which is on sale now and first deliveries will begin by the end of 2016.

The Ford Kuga ST-Line is said to be inspired by Ford Performance models such as the Focus RS and as such comes with various styling tweaks to toughen it up, including sport seats with part-leather and contrasting stitching.

You can also expect lots of black detailing, a front skid plate, black roof rails, privacy glass and 18-inch or 19-inch alloys (also in black).

A sport chassis with ‘specially tuned suspension and steering’, thicker anti-roll bars, 10mm lower ride height also feature and should make the drive a tad sportier, especially in conjunction with the more powerful engine options.

Speaking of which, all engines will be available for the ST-Line Kuga. That means the 120PS 1.5-litre TDCI diesel capable of a claimed 64.2mpg combined and up to 115g/km of CO2.

In the petrol camp is a 1.5-litre EcoBoost with 120 or 150PS outputs with front-wheel drive, which is expected to achieve 45.6mpg and 143g/km of CO2. An all-wheel drive version with 182PS offers from 38.2mpg while emitting 171g/km of CO2.

The Kuga ST-Line mode joins the current Fiesta ST-Line and Mondeo ST-Line. A Kuga Vignale will also be offered for the first time and includes an exclusive Milano Grigio paintjob and Cashmere leather interior trim.

“Ford ST-Line models are designed to deliver a fun to drive experience, and we placed a strong focus on ensuring that Ford’s first performance-orientated SUV in Europe offered the same driving characteristics as the Fiesta ST-Line, Focus ST-Line and Mondeo ST-Line models”, said Frederick Vrancken, Ford of Europe Kuga ST-Line vehicle dynamics engineer.

Prices start from £20,845 for the new Kuga, with the ST-Line coming in at £25,845. Ford said it expects 200,000 sales of Kuga, EcoSport and Edge SUVs in Europe, an increase of 200 per cent on 2013. Read our Ford Edge review here.
