The new Ford Mustang is already a lovely slice of V8 motoring, but if you want something terrifying then look no further than Hennessey’s HPE800 monster.
The Hennessey 25th Anniversary Edition HPE800 uses the new 5.0-litre V8 Ford Mustang as a basis, but features extensive revisions to make it one of the most powerful muscle cars money can buy ─ and just 25 will be built so it will be rare, too.
By strapping a 2.9-litre supercharger to the V8 as well as a high induction intake system, exhaust upgrade, new fuel injectors and a new fuel pump system, the HPE800 Mustang pumps out 804bhp at 7,000rpm and 648lb/ft of torque from 4,400rpm when using Shell V-Power 93 octane fuel.
To put that into perspective, Hennessey’s fettling has increased the output of the standard Ford Mustang by 369hp and 248lb/ft of torque ─ basically an entire Focus RS has been squeezed under the bonnet.
Suffice to say, spritely would be a severe understatement. The top speed is a ridiculous 207.9mph and 0-62mph takes 3.1 seconds if you can shift the six-speed manual gearbox quickly enough. The standard car manages 155mph and 4.8 seconds, respectively.
As for a quarter-mile, that is dispatched in 10.7 seconds at 133mph, which is impressive for a car that weighs around 1,700kg.
Not only is it quick, Hennessey has added unique graphics, interior and exterior badging, KW Variant 3 suspension, Hennessey-embroidered headrests, 1 of 25 serial plaque, Hennessey floor mats, 20-inch lightweight alloys and Brembo 15-inch brake system so it will look and handle the part as well.
Not only that, each of the 25 cars comes with a certificate of authenticity, Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, Dyno Tuning and Road Testing, three-year / 36,000-mile warranty and a CarbonAero front splitter, side sills and rear lip spoiler.
