Hyundai has revealed the UK price of the Ioniq Plug-in, which joins the three-car line-up comprised the already released Hybrid and Electric. Here is what you need to know.
The Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in is identical to its siblings save for the powertrain, which is made up of a 105PS 1.6-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine and a 61PS electric motor for a total of 141PS. Changing gear is done via the six-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Uber drivers and frugal consumers are sure to find the new Ioniq Plug-in a bit of a winner because it combines a low CO2 emission level of just 26g/km (nine per cent BIK for 2017/18) and no first-year VED rate.
It can also do a claimed 680 miles on a single tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, making it considerably more versatile than the Ioniq Electric. The plug-in hybrid also has something over its hybrid cousin, which is the ability to go 39 miles on electric-only.
To make life convenient, Hyundai provides the option of a £300 POD Point 7kW home charger, which means those with the space to have one fitted can easily charge their Ioniq Plug-in using the Type 2 connector. An ICCB charging cable is supplied for three-pin emergency charges.
Two specifications ─ Premium and Premium SE ─ will be available. The first includes 16-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Smart Cruise Control and an eight-inch infotainment display capable of navigation.
Other standard extras are LED headlights, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, autonomous emergency braking, Lane Keep Assist System, Rear Parking Assist System, LED headlights and wireless smartphone charging.
Spend an extra £1,800 on the Premium SE trim and you get leather seat facings, front seat ventilation, rear seat heating, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, alloy pedals, rain-sensing wipers, Blind Spot Detection and Front Park Assist.
Six metallic colours (Phantom Black, Platinum Silver, Iron Grey, Demitasse Brown, Marina Blue and Phoenix Orange) can be had for an extra £565 if the thought of keeping the standard Polar White paintjob sounds like too much hassle.
The Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in Premium costs from £24,995, while the higher spec of the Premium SE starts from £26,795. That price includes Government Plug-in grant of £2,500.
“With up to 39 miles of electric-only power, there is more than sufficient range for zero-emission daily commutes as well as the reassurance of longer range from the hybrid powertrain when needed,” said Hyundai UK president and CEO, Tony Whitehorn.
“We anticipate keen interest from private buyers and fleet users alike, given the Plug-in Hybrid’s great value pricing and low tax rates,” he added.
