Jaguar F-Type V6S video review: Manual for the win?

Rory Reid reviews the Jaguar F-Type V6S Coupe with a manual gearbox to see if having a more involving drive is worth being slower for.

Champagne and caviar, jam and sponge, crisps and beer ─ these are perfect matches. Another example should be the brilliant Jaguar F-Type V6S and a manual gearbox, but it’s not that simple.

You see, the F-Type V6S auto was virtually perfect. Its automatic gearbox changes so fast you have no chance of matching it with your sausage fingers and mash potato hands. In fact, it takes longer than half a second for manual to hit 0-62mph (4.9 vs 5.5 seconds).

That means the far cheaper base V6 automatic is quicker than the V6S manual. Try explaining that to your mates down the pub.

Things go from bad to worse when you start looking at the fuel economy figures. Wanting a macho approach to motoring will cost you around 3mpg in efficiency, meaning bigger spending every time you go for a spirited drive.

And that you will because manual or not, the F-Type V6S is a fine machine regardless of the gears. It has 450Nm of torque so it pulls hard, while its composed steering and general feel makes you feel alive. As for the looks, you could frame it. Plus it won’t kill you like the V8.

So does going manual really make that much difference? Do the numbers on paper really make or break one a Recombu Cars favourite? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.

If anything, it’s worth it for the ‘oh s#$%’ moment at 7:16. Be sure to like and subscribe for more videos reviews.
