We’ve all been on some high octane taxi rides in our time. Jaguar’s just upped the ante, though, with a Nurburgring cab that will put any boy racer-turned-Addison Lee driver to shame.
The cab in question is a 510PS Jaguar XJ Supersport that will take up to three passengers on a high speed thrill ride around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
This already rapid XJ Supersport has had a few tweaks to boost its ‘ring credentials. It includes Jaguar’s Sport and Speed Packs, so it’s been blessed with sportier wheels and seats, more aggressive styling, and its top speed has been raised from an electronically limited 155mph to a nappy-requiring 174mph.
Jaguar’s also painted the thing matt grey, fitted a roll cage, four point harnesses for all occupants and installed a professional driver that can exploit the car’s considerable performance. It’s neglected to fit a fare meter, but if it had, we don’t expect it would clock up a very high number. The XJ Supersport will lap the 13-mile Nordschleife in no time at all.
Frank Klass, Global Head of Communications at Jaguar Land Rover told us “We’ve been running a successful Nürburgring driving programme from our Nordschleife engineering test centre now for some time, as it’s the very best place to demonstrate the dynamic abilities of the current Jaguar XF, XJ and XK models.
“Of these models, we found it’s the XJ Supersport that most often surprises journalists with its speed simply because they perceive it to be a large luxury car. The XJ is both those things, of course, but its aluminium architecture means it’s rigid and lightweight too, which make it a very good car on track. To underline that fact, our engineering team created this special Nürburgring taxi version in which our trained drivers can safely take passengers on very hot laps!”
Jaguar hasn’t yet announced pricing or availability for its Nurburgring taxi service, but we’ll let you know these details as soon as they become available.
