Maserati Quattroporte Zegna Limited Edition arrives fashionably late

Just 100 examples of the fashion-themed Maserati Quattroporte will be available for well-off petrolheads.

Maserati and Italian luxury fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna have announced the launch of the Quattroporte Zegna Limited Edition, which was originally teased way back at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013.

Just 100 cars will be built, each one gifted with a special plaque located on the centre console that indicates which of the batch you own and a unique soft leather and fabric interior inspired by the history of both brands.

The Maserati Quattroporte Zegna also has a unique platinum paintjob comprised a gloss black primer and layers of ultra-fine aluminium paint pigments that are said to ‘stimulate the fluidity and purity of metal’. We’re guessing that is marketing speak for ‘ooh pretty’.

Both Italian companies are celebrating the launch of the Maserati Quattroporte Zegna with four international events for its favourite customers: Shanghai in July, New York in September, Dubai in February 2015 and fashion capital Milan in the spring of 2015.

A book of 100 photos – 25 from each event – called the “One of 100” taken by world famous Italian photographer Fabrizio Ferri will accompany the car.

There is more to the three-year partnership than a glorified Mazzy. All future models will have access to a Zegna trim from 2015, giving buyers a little added luxury and style if, of course, they have the readies.

Maserati and Zegna also took the time to announce they will help restore the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Nettuno in Bologna, which is said to be what inspired the former’s trident logo.

The five-door Maserati Quattroporte comes with a choice of two engines, a 530hp 3.8-litre V8 that develops 479lb/ft of torque or a 410hp 3.0-litre V6 that develops 410hp and 405lb/ft. Both are suitably rapid for what is a practical grand tourer.

Maserati neglected to mention a price so expect to pay a pretty penny for exclusivity.
