McLaren 570S Coupe is a Porsche 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT rival

McLaren has announced the ‘baby’ 570S ahead of its public debut at the 115th New York International Auto Show in April 2015.

The McLaren 570S Coupe will be the first car to feature in the new Sports Series, which sits below the Super Series (650S) and Ultimate Series (P1 and P1 GTR) in a new three-tier model strategy. It will be McLaren’s entry into the sports car market.

Like with the ‘utterly magnificent’ 650S supercar, the 570S Coupe will have 570PS, which in real money is 562hp. That puts it on an even-keel with the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT and will likely be priced accordingly.

The two-seater 570S will be a ‘pure’ McLaren, the British manufacturer said, adding that it will offer ‘class-leading levels of performance, coupled with optimised handling characteristics and driving dynamics’. A ludicrously bright orange paintjob is par for the course.

Beyond a very unhelpful photo and what we have said, there are few details of the 570S Coupe to go on. But we know it will share aspects with the 650S and P1, which means a detuned twin-turbo V8 borrowed from its bigger brother is more than likely. Copious amounts of carbon fibre, meanwhile, is dead certain.

The Coupe aspect of the name suggests a ‘Spider’ convertible variant will follow suit for those who prefer the wind in their hair and a posier look.

Expect to see and hear more of the 570S as we head towards its big reveal in New York.
