McLaren 650S Le Mans pays tribute to F1 GTR glory

McLaren Special Operations has announced the 650S Le Mans, a limited edition version of the standard supercar that celebrates F1 GTR glory at the famous 24-hour event.

The 1995 race saw five McLaren F1 GTR cars take home first, third, fourth, fifth and 13th place, which lead to a five-car production run of the McLaren F1 LM. The 650S Le Mans pays homage to the 20th anniversary since that result.

The McLaren 650S Le Mans comes in coupe form only and has the same 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which produces 641bhp (650PS), 678Nm and can hit 0 to 62mph in three seconds.

Separating the Le Mans edition and the standard car are styling cues taken from the F1 GTR (not to be confused with the P1 GTR), including the unmistakable ‘snorkel’ air intake on the roof designed to direct cold air over the engine and louvres in the front wings that increase downforce.

There are also various bits developed by McLaren Special Operations to up the level of badassery, like extended side blades, rear diffuser, various Le Mans logos and a moody metallic Sarthe Grey paintjob. Inside are black leather and Alcantara seats, yet more logos in the seat headrests and special floor mats.

Unique 19-inch Le Mans Edition lightweight alloy wheels encased in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres and carbon ceramic brakes with McLaren Orange calipers round off the £244,500 supercar, which is on sale now and will be delivered from mid-2015.
