McLaren has announced a brand new model known as the Sports Series. The mystery McLaren, which was known only by its ‘P13’ codename until now, will debut in the second quarter of 2015.
There’s little to say about the McLaren Sports Series as details are scarce. We do, however, know it will sit below the 650S supercar and P1 hypercar in the range and is powered by a big-old V8.
“The McLaren Sports Series will be a pure McLaren, building on the credentials of the McLaren P1 and 650S, bringing Formula 1 technologies and know-how to a new segment for the brand. It will feature a carbon fibre chassis and mid-mounted V8 engine,” McLaren said in an official announcement.
In the run up to the launch, the company will document the history of various game-changing ‘Black Swan Moments’ with 13 video ‘chapters’ as part of a social media campaign. Each video be feature a random monumental historical moment from around the globe and from McLaren’s own universe.
McLaren will use the Twitter hashtag #BlackSwanMoments to accompany said video stories, all of which focus on something that ‘changed and challenged people’s beliefs and thinking’. Apparently.
The social media campaign surrounding the launch seems a bit of a lame duck to us (pun intended), but it’s a small price to pay when a more affordable McLaren is on the cards. The Porsche 911, Mercedes-AMG GT and Audi R8 V10 better sleep with one eye open.
