Geneva Motor Show 2016: McLaren has revealed the 570GT, a 562bhp supercar that promises to be its ‘most luxurious and refined’ car to date.
The McLaren 570GT sits alongside the 570S Coupe and 540C Coupe in the entry-level Sports Series model range. It has been designed to be more road-friendly, with a number of revisions made to that end.
For starters, the spring rate has been reduced by 15 per cent at the front and 10 per cent at the rear, making it a bit softer. The adaptive suspension and anti-roll bars have also been tweaked to improve ride quality.
Meanwhile the steering ratio has been reduced by two per cent and is designed to smooth out driver inputs at a high cruising speed.
McLaren has also made the tinted panoramic roof as standard to make the cabin brighter and airier. Then there’s something called the Touring Deck, a leather-lined area of space behind the two seats, that adds 220 litres of space for things.
A glass hatch allows luggage to be loaded into the Touring Deck from the side of the 570GT. Factor in the front boot of 150 litres and that’s an impressive 370 litres to play with – more than a Ford Focus, in fact.
It shares the same 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo seen in the 570S and the same 562bhp output, allowing a 0-62mph sprint of 3.4 seconds, 0-124mph in 9.8 seconds and a top speed of 204mph.
With a kerb weight of 1,350kg (37kg heavier than the 570S), the power to weight ratio is 461bhp per tonne. You may think the McLaren 570S drinks fuel, then, but in fact it can return a claimed 26.6mpg and spits out just 249g/km of CO2.
In terms of design, the 570GT and 570S share the same front bumper and dihedral doors, but the rear spoiler on the former is 10mm taller, the roof is different and the rear end has been modified.
Inside, McLaren has made its Audio Plus sound system a standard fixture, meaning the driver and passenger can have their ears massaged by various tweeters, mid and bass speakers. A 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins upgrade is available.
Prices start from £154,000 for the 570GT, making it more expensive than the 570S by around £10,000. First deliveries will begin in late 2016.
