Mercedes-AMG: Something fast is coming

Saying AMG will build something fast is a given – that’s its speciality. But in this instance a suitably vague teaser video has piqued our interest.

In the official Mercedes-AMG video you can see the mystery machine lapping the German circuit of Hockenheim with what appears to be a grumbly V8 lump propelling it along at breakneck speeds. Then you see a message that says: “Something fast is coming.”

Exactly what that could be is the big question. The video gives little away so we can only speculate on the fact it sounds like the 4.0-litre biturbo V8 found in the AMG GT. AMG GT Black anyone? AMG GT3?

Other reasonable alternatives include a new version of the C63 Coupe and E63 saloon, but the choice of Hockenheim for the video suggests this will be a sporty, apex-hugging Merc, once again reinforcing the likelihood this has something to do with the AMG GT.

Mercedes-AMG teased the existence of a more powerful version of the AMG GT (potentially known as the GT R, according to reports) at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, but details and pictures have been non-existent ever since.

Assuming we are correct, it is likely a fair dose of weight removal and a power hike will push the car from the realms of stupidity into insanity. Think well into 500bhp and a 0-62mph time of less than four seconds.

Exactly when and where the news will break is unknown, so hopefully those crazy Germans put us out of our misery soon, even though the AMG GT Black is reportedly arriving in 2018. In the meantime, watch the video below and tell us what you think it is.
