Mercedes C 63 AMG Edition 507 has more than a monkey’s worth of ponies

Mercedes-Benz is firing on all cylinders, it seems. Not content with teasing us with the technological tour de force that is the S-Class, and the thunderous E 63 AMG S, it’s just presented us with the decidedly souped up C 63 AMG Edition 507.

This model is a slightly more mental version of the standard C 63 AMG, in case you hadn’t guessed. Mercedes has bumped up the horsepower and torque figures by 50bhp and 10Nm, respectively, meaning the 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 now packs 500bhp and 610Nm of torque. Why the 507 naming, then? Because 500bhp is 507 metric ponies.

The Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Edition 507 will be available in saloon, estate and coupe forms. The coupe and saloon variants will do 0 to 62mph in 4.2 seconds (4.3 seconds for the estate) which is — a reduction of 0.3 seconds over the standard car. All versions ship with the AMG Drivers Package, which deactivates the electronic speed limiter so the cars will hit 174mph flat out.

Other additions unique to the C 63 Edition 507 include 19-inch AMG Cross-Spoke alloys in a fetching titanium finish, red brake callipers and a high performance composite brake system, AMG sports stripe on the side of the car and a more aggressive-looking bonnet, borrowed from the C 63 AMG Black Series Coupe. A choice of six colours are available, including the costly Magno Platinum (£3,660).

As part of the AMG Drivers Package, buyers can choose to attend what’s called the AMG Basic Training Power and Passion Event, a day where you get to hoon around learning what your new purchase can really do. Luckily, you can choose to borrow a different car instead of ragging your own.

Prices on the road start at £66,960 for the saloon and £68,160 for the estate and coupe versions.
