We’ve seen all manner of racing Mercs in our time, so it should probably come as no surprise to learn the company has given yet another of its vehicles, the CLA 45 AMG, the full racing treatment. What you’re looking at here is the new CLA 45 AMG Racing Series, a car Mercedes is currently pitching at customer racing teams in need of a fast four-cylinder bruiser.

Mercedes will offer the CLA 45 AMG Racing Series with what is ostensibly the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that appears in the standard car, but exact technical specifications will vary according to the race and racing series in which the car is deployed. Engine output and power transmission are variable and buyers will have a choice of permanent all-wheel drive or purely front-wheel drive.
The cars will feature a dedicated racing suspension system with a wider front and rear track and plenty of adjustability so teams can make the most of it on a variety of race tracks. Suspension level, spring rate, damper characteristics, as well as the track and camber at the front and rear axles can all be tweaked.
The CLA 45 AMG will feature front and rear aprons, flared wings and side sill panels all made from carbon fibre. The interior, meanwhile, benefits from a high-strength roll cage, a Recaro P 1300 GT racing bucket seat with HANS (Head and Heck Support) system and an integrated fire extinguishing system.
