Revisions to the E-Class will include a nine-speed automatic transmission, Mercedes-Benz has announced, with the changes coming into effect from September.
The new 9-speed automatic will debut in the E-Class E350 BlueTec Cabriolet, Coupé, Estate and Saloon before it is used across the entire Mercedes range. CO2 emissions are reduced by up to 17g/km as a result, with the Coupé and Saloon achieving 136 and 139g/km, respectively.
The E 220 BlueTec is 7hp more powerful than before, taking the total to 177hp. CO2 emissions have been reduced by up to 16g/km when paired with the unchanged 7G-Tronic transmission. The E 400 AMG Line, meanwhile, pumps out up to 17g/km CO2 less than before.
Collision Prevention Assist Plus is now standard on every E-Class model. A visual and acoustic warning is given if you are about to drive into something head-on. React too slowly and autonomous braking comes to the rescue.
E-Class buyers will have the option of a Premium and Premium Plus Package, which Mercedes-Benz says works out up to 27 per cent cheaper than buying every extra separately. Premium includes a panoramic glass sun roof, rear split folding seats and reversing camera for £2,695.
Spend £3,895 for the Premium Plus Package and you get Keyless-Go Comfort Pack and a Harman Kardon sound system on top of the Premium extras. Expect to pay £400 less for the Estate upgrades because split folding seats and a powered tailgate are already standard.
