Mini is celebrating the launch of the new Convertible with a special edition model known as the Mini Open 150 Edition, which will be available from the 5th of March, 2016.
Just 150 examples of the Mini Convertible Mini Open 150 Edition will be built for the UK, each one featuring a generous level of standard equipment, including heated seats, 18-inch alloys, navigation, LED headlights and the Chilli and Media Packs.
You also get a Rear Parking Distance Control, Rear Reversing Camera, Mini Visual Boost Radio and Mini Rain Warner, which warns the driver via smartphone if rain is expected so they know to close the roof.
The interior is wrapped in Chester Malt Brown, while the dashboard features a ‘specially designed’ Open 150 Edition plaque. The same logo can also be seen on the door entry strips.
The new, four-seater Mini Convertible is bigger than its predecessor, thanks to being 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 1mm taller. It also has a 28mm longwe wheelbase, improving interior space for passengers.
Boot space is now 215 litres with the roof closed and 160 litres. Said fabric roof closes and opens in 18 seconds at up to 18mph while a front roof section gives 40cm of breezy motoring and can be retracted at any speed.
Powering the special edition Mini Convertible is the 2.0-litre Cooper S lump, which has 192hp, 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds with the £1,375 optional six-speed automatic Steptronic, fuel economy of 47.9mpg, CO2 emissions of 131g/km (139g/km for the manual) and a 143mph top speed.
Prices start from £29,990 for the Mini Open 150 Edition, a bit of a stretch over the entry-level standard 1.5-litre petrol Cooper Convertible, which starts from £18,475 with a manual gearbox. Expect our first drive very soon.
