New spy shots of the successor to the Aston Martin DBS have been papped by the folks over at Car Magazine. The ‘new DBS’, spotted on public roads, was only minimally disguisinged, giving us a reliable idea of what it’ll look like when it goes on sale.
Aesthetically, Aston Martin hasn’t strayed too far from the previous design. The car sports headlamp clusters that look like they’ve been lifted from a Rapide, as well as a new front splitter and redesigned air intakes on the front bumper. These give it a an edgier appearance, although we can’t help but be reminded of the Tesla Model S.
In profile, not much appears to have changed. The DBS successor’s side skirts look smoother than those on the current car, but we’re hard pressed to spot anything else that’s changed in this area. At the rear, the license plate section has been shifted from the boot lid to the bumper, which helps accentuate the rear spoiler. The diffuser on this car doesn’t appear to have been fitted, which gave the car a slightly incomplete appearance — although perhaps this is the look Aston Martin is going for.
Underneath the slightly tweaked exterior, the new car uses the same VH chassis as the current DBS and pretty much every Aston Martin product on the market today. Its engine is largely the same, too. It’ll use Aston Martin’s tried and tested 6-litre V12 unit, but in this case it’ll output an estimated 550bhp — 40bhp more than the current unit.
