New Astra Sports Tourer is a British-built estate

Vauxhall has announced details and a price for the all-new Astra Sports Tourer, which will arrive in showrooms in March 2016.

The new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer follows on from the five-door launched in October and is said to be up to £1,870 cheaper than the outgoing ST model. It will be built at Vauxhall’s manufacturing plant in Ellesmere Port of Cheshire.

There are a number of frugal-sounding engines to go for, including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder Turbo Start/Stop ecoFLEX capable of 96g/km of CO2 so it’s free to tax.

Then there’s the 1.6-litre CDTi ‘Whisper Diesel’ Start/Stop ecoFLEX with 110PS, which is said to achieve an impressive 85.6mpg and 86g/km of CO2, and a 200PS 1.6-litre if you prefer performance over penny-saving.

Four trim levels will be available – Design, Tech Line, SRi and Elite – and Nav will be available on the SRi and Elite in case you want Vauxhall’s navigation system.

An Astra Sports Tourer with the Design trim comes with 16-inch alloys, a rear spoiler, hill-start assist, comfort front seats, steering wheel audio controls, air-conditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, electric front and rear windows, electrically adjustable and heated mirrors, LED daytime running lights and a multi-function trip computer.

Tech Line adds a leather-covered steering wheel, six premium speakers, adjustable front armrest, Navi 900 IntelliLink infotainment system with an integrated European sat nav system and an eight-inch touchscreen.

SRi ups the ante with 17-inch alloys, front fog lights, silver-effect roof fails instead of black, sports-style front seats, storage pockets on the front back seats, automatic wipers, automatic headlights, Sport switch and a driver assistance pack comprising lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and automatic emergency braking.

Elite includes dual-zone climate control, electric parking brake, even sportier seats with electric adjustment, leather seat trim, two USB charging points and a remote control alarm system.

The new Astra Sports Tourer will start from £16,585 for the 1.0-litre, while 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’ will set you back from £18,785. The five-door Astra starts from £15,295.
