New Vauxhall Corsa: Engine specs revealed

Vauxhall has revealed the specs behind the engine that will power the next generation Corsa — and it’s an absolute monster.

OK, that last bit’s a slight exaggeration. The new Corsa will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3 cylinder Ecotec engine that’s available in 115PS or 90PS power guises, both of which manage 170Nm of torque from relatively low in the rev range: 1,800rpm.

Vauxhall has yet to release 0-62mph times, (don’t hold your breath – it won’t be anything special) but we do know the top-spec Ecotec engine will do 50mph to 75mph in 10.4 seconds, so it’s eager to overtake. Eventually.

The lower-spec engine, meanwhile, delivers a respectable 54.7mpg.

If the 1.0-litre engines don’t do it for you, you could always get your Corsa with 1.2- or 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated engines, which produce 70PS and 90PS, respectively. They’re not as tempting as the smaller Ecotec motor, but they may save you a bit of cash.

Prices are set to be announced on October 2nd with the first examples going into production towards the end of 2014.
