Nissan Juke-R confirmed for limited production

They’ve only gone and done it! Nissan’s top brass has finally bowed to pressure (large offers of money, really) and decided to build the awesome Nissan Juke-R.

The car, which combines the approximate styling of a Nissan Juke with the powertrain of the highly tuned GT-R, was initially supposed to be a one off concept. However, it would appear some wealthy individuals have expressed an interest in the thing after a recent demonstration.

The decision to build the Juke-R followed a brilliantly orchestrated event in Dubai, where Nissan showed the car outrunning a Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 458 Italia and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG around a street circuit. This piqued the interest of some filthy rich individuals in close proximity, who repeatedly waved their chequebooks at Nissan until it said whatever the Japanese is for “your massive wad has twisted my arm”.

At the time of writing, Nissan has received firm orders for three cars to be built — two of which have come from “a high-profile and well-respected member of Dubai society”. It isn’t naming names, but we expect his first name’s probably “Sheik”. The company expects to take yet more orders in the coming weeks before production starts “in ernest”.

The production version of the Juke-R will be even more powerful than the prototype. The original Juke-R prototype was based on 2010 GT-R running gear, but production models will benefit from the drivetrain and chassis of the meaner, more powerful 2012 model. Expect it to provide in the region of 545bhp and 459Nm of torque, which should be good for 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed in the region of 160mph.

“The Juke-R was originally intended as a one-off concept to marry two of Nissan’s most innovative models,” commented Gareth Dunsmore, Marketing Product Manager for the Juke. “But the reaction we had to the car in Dubai was amazing — people were making offers for the original on the street!”

“With such a strong reaction, and with three genuine offers on the table, we decided we had to make the car a reality. We can’t let down enthusiasts who are this keen to add to their collection of cars. The Juke-R has become something of a phenomenon and I’m enormously proud of the impact it has had. There will be more news to come on Juke later in the year.”
