Nissan Leaf Black Edition promises stealthier all-electric motoring

Nissan has announced a limited edition version of its all-electric family wagon known as the Leaf Black Edition, which will go on sale from March 2017.

The Nissan Leaf Black Edition is based on the Acentra trim level but comes with a few aesthetic improvements to make it more desirable, including 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, illuminated entry guards and a black rear roof spoiler.

Also standard are black door mirror caps, privacy glass, blue-stitched floor mats and the NissanConnect EV telematics system with Around View Monitor, which includes the hands-free calling and a seven-inch touchscreen display.

Nissan will sell the Leaf Black Edition between March and August 2017, at which point production will cease. The first 1,000 customers will get a free WiFi hotspot that lets up to eight devices connect simultaneously.

“The Nissan LEAF Black Edition offers our customers stylish, premium design in an affordable mass-market 100 percent electric vehicle,” Nissan electric vehicles director Gareth Dunsmore said.

“We are committed to delivering innovation that excites and this vehicle does just that, with our leading Around View Monitor technology offering customers a more confident drive – embodying Nissan Intelligent Mobility,” he added.

The Nissan Leaf was recently updated with a 30kWh capacity battery, giving it a NEDC range of 155 miles, although the much stricter and more accurate EPA rating comes in at just over 100 miles.

The Hyundai Ioniq Electric rival is the world’s best-selling all-electric vehicle, having notched up more than 240,000 sales since it went on sale in 2010.
