Range Rover Evoque Convertible to offer off-road fun in the sun

Land Rover has officially unveiled the Evoque Convertible, the world’s first luxury compact sports utility vehicle and the manufacturer’s first ever convertible.

The Evoque Convertible is based on the standard Evoque but features a fully-automated roof that can be stowed in 18 seconds and raised in 21 seconds, both at speeds up to 30mph so no need to pull over when the heavens open.

Range Rover has designed the Evoque Convertible to fold the roof away without affecting boot space, so you can store up to 251 litres of things regardless of whether it is up or down. Meanwhile acoustic insulation is said to provide the same level of comfort as the Evoque.

In the event of an emergency, a Roll-Over Protection Device with deployable roll-over bars are deployed in 90 milliseconds to ensure occupants are kept safe.

A choice of various engines will be available, including the 240PS Si4 petrol and the 2.0-litre Ingenium seen on the Discovery Sport, the latter said to offer up to 55mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 149g/km.

To ensure off-road prowess, the Evoque Convertible can be specced with four-wheel drive, Land Rover’s nine-speed automatic, Terrain Response to maximise traction in all conditions, Wade Sensing for cruising through deep water and All-Terrain Progress Control.

It is also equipped with a high-resolution 10.2-inch touchscreen display, with the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system debuting for the first time in a Land Rover. Features include 3G connectivity, door-to-door navigation and a ‘premium sound system’.

Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern said: “Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a vehicle for all seasons. Its uniquely distinctive design and world-class engineering adds another dimension to the Range Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal.”

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be produced at Land Rover’s Halewood plant in the UK. It will go on sale from Spring 2016 in more than 170 markets worldwide, starting from £47,500 for the TD4 HSE Dynamic model. The standard Evoque starts from £29,205.
