550bhp Bowler EXR S ‘all-terrain supercar’ up for auction

An extremely rare 2015 Bowler EXR S will go under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions and is expected to fetch somewhere in the region of £95,000 to £115,000.

The Bowler EXR S was designed by Drew Bowler and he is currently the owner of this vehicle. Just three right-hand drive cars exist and the auction is for chassis number one – the first of just three built.

It is based on the Range Rover Sport Chassis but, as the pictures reveal, it’s been modified heavily to make it even better at off-roading, with an FIA-approved roll cage and a lightweight body added to make it weigh just 1,815kg.

The real star is the engine, which has been shifted back to improve weight distribution. The 5.0-litre supercharged V8 develops a whopping 550bhp and 625Nm of torque, helping launch it from 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds and up to an electronically limited 155mph.

Off-roading prowess is enhanced with fully independent double wishbone suspension setup at the front and rear with Bilstein dampers and Eibach progressive springs for 285mm of travel and a six-speed automatic gearbox that can switch to permanent four-wheel drive.

Stopping the Bowler EXR S is taken care of by Brembo brakes with 360mm discs and six-pot calipers on the front and 340mm discs at the rear and four-pot calipers at the rear. 22-inch wheels with 305/35/R22 tyres provide the grip.

Other extras include dual climate control, two racing seats, passive keyless ignition, carbon fibre door cards, heated electric door mirrors, heated front and rear screen, Bi-Xenon self-levelling headlights and a Pioneer stereo CD with Bluetooth and iPod compatibility for some tunes.

Meanwhile the lack of rear seats means there’s plenty of space for an Ikea flatpack or one of man’s best friends, making it almost as practical as a Dacia Duster. Sort of.

Silverstone Auctions describes the Bowler EXR S as a ‘rocket-powered tractor’ and the performance as ‘genuinely mindblowing’, which is a fair assessment. It has covered just 480 miles from new and is cheaper than the £155,000 plus VAT asking price when new.

Silverstone Auctions managing director Nick Whale said: “What a machine this is! The power and performance of this car is genuinely mind blowing. This is a truly stunning and very special motor car which offers an outstanding driving experience.”

He added: “This really is the ultimate go anywhere supercar, as good in the dunes of the desert as on the Kings Road in Chelsea. This is a unique opportunity to acquire the latest top of the range all terrain supercar for a fraction of the cost new today.”

Bowler Motorsport has made a number of truly ridiculous off-roaders, including the Wildcat (driven by Richard Hammond on Top Gear), followed by the Tomcat and then the EXR, which was made even more lairy with a special ‘S’ variant in 2015.

The auction will be held at the Silverstone circuit on the 20th of May, 2016. Can anyone lend us a fiver?
