Paris Motor Show 2016: Renault may not be known for stunning cars, but boy does the French manufacturer do a good concept – and the Trezor is its latest creation.
The Renault Trezor is a Grand Tourer that uses an all-electric powertrain to turn the wheels. The motor is derived from what was used to give it two Formula E world titles and features two batteries to keep it going, each with its own cooling system to ensure maximum efficiency.
Full power is 350hp and peak torque is 380Nm of torque. Those numbers help equate to a 0-62mph time of below four seconds, making it on a par with some supercars. Apply the brakes, meanwhile, and its Rechargeable Storage System (RESS) system claws back some energy.
Besides looking incredible, thanks to the work of design director Laurens van den Acker, the Renault Trezor offers fully autonomous driving so you and the one passenger it can accommodate can do more important things like play travel Monopoly or argue over the paint colour for the front room.
Yes the Renault Trezor is a two-seater, but at 4.7 metres in length, 2.1 metres in width and 1-metre tall, it is absolutely massive. That carbon fibre body is nearly as long as a Range Rover Sport, which is quite something when you learn it weighs a not-so-portly 1,600kg.
There are no plans to bring the Renault Trezor to production, which is a shame because Trezor in French means treasure and we could see this car making it a lot of money. But a sporty electric car of some sort does seem likely given its Formula E successes – and it would be a shame to waste those looks.
