Everybody has a fair idea how good Rolls-Royce cars are, but relatively few know just how good. Rory got the chance to discover for himself recently, taking us all along for the ride in this video review of the Rolls-Royce Wraith.
The Rolls-Royce Wraith is unique amongst its peers. Unlike others in the RR stable, this is a gentleman’s GT, a car that can ferry the driver and his companions long distances in comfort, yet it also has a bit of a dark side.
It uses Rolls-Royce’s most powerful engine yet – a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 that can unleash 624bhp at the push of the accelerator pedal, meaning it’s the most dynamic, exciting Rolls-Royce production car there’s ever been.
On the road, it’s certainly fun to drive. That power is all too tempting; your surroundings can be made to blur in an instant, as evidenced by the 4.4-second 0-62mph time and, should you encounter a corner, it’ll lean into said bend with predictable purpose rather than careering out of control under the inertia of its own considerable weight.
Amazingly, it does an even better job when being driven slowly. Despite its obscene power, the Wraith is arguably the most composed vehicle on the road. Its engine and exhaust noises are barely audible, its gear changes imperceptible and its suspension so buttery smooth that even large speed bumps are inconsequential.
