Tesla has bolstered its UK charging network with a supercharger at Edinburgh Airport in Scotland, enabling owners in the area to give their Model S half a charge in less than 30 minutes.
The supercharger charging point – located at the Almond Road car park near the Airport terminal – will be available 24 hours a day and is free to use by anyone who owns the all-electric Tesla Model S. A complimentary hour of parking is included while you wait for your car to recharge.
Tesla UK country director Georg Eli said: “We’re really pleased to open our first Scottish Supercharger. The location makes travel in and around Edinburgh easy and also enables a route from Edinburgh to both Glasgow and Stirling and beyond.”
A service station and Tesla showroom in Scotland was also mentioned. “It’s an exciting time for Tesla in Scotland. There are plans for an Edinburgh store and service centre next year, so watch this space for more activity,” he added.
Chief executive of Edinburgh Airport Gordon Dewar said: “It’s great that Edinburgh Airport is now home to Scotland’s first Tesla Supercharger, which will provide convenient service for Tesla owners when they arrive and depart.”
The supercharger makes life easier for Scottish Model S owners, but the location is less ‘strategically placed’ than usual. The Scottish supercharger is 311.9 miles from the one in Birmingham (according to Google Maps), which means even the P85 and its 312 mile max range would never make it in one go. So no crossing the UK for free just yet.
There are nine superchargers (five in London and the remaining four in Reading, Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh) currently open in the UK and 223 worldwide, according to Tesla’s website.
