Ssangyong teases LIV-2 Rexton SUV successor

South Korean manufacturer Ssangyong has released a few teaser shots of the Rexton’s replacement ahead of its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

Ssangyong calls the LIV-2 a large premium sports utility vehicle concept and one that, as the name suggests, follows on from the LIV-1 exhibited at the Seoul Motor Show back in 2013.

The LIV aspect of the name is short for ‘Limitless Interface Vehicle’ (whatever that means) and is the final concept of the Y400 development model that will be launched in 2017. It is said to ‘advance the car’s design language and helps communicate the brand theme of Dignified Motion’.

Ssangyong claims the LIV-2 will offer powerful yet efficient performance, thanks to the use of its own 2.2-litre Euro 6 diesel or its newly developed 2.0-litre GDI turbo petrol.

Though specific details are thin on the ground, Ssangyong did mention the LIV-2 features high levels of safety technology and a ‘contemporary luxury interior equipped with a suite of advanced communication technologies’.

The LIV-2 ─ or whatever it will be called in production form ─ will join the smaller Tivoli crossover in the range and is a replacement for the aging and not-so-capable Rexton, which is a big, beefy, budget off-roader.

Ssangyong has scheduled a press conference on Thursday the 29th of September so expect to know more around then.
