The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is here

This, ladies and gentleman, is the new Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake (estate). It will go on sale in January 2015, with first orders arriving in customer hands at the end of March 2015.

A choice of two diesel and three petrol engines will be available as well as the option of 4Matic all-wheel drive. The most efficient is the 136hp CLA 200 CDI, which achieves 72.4mpg and CO2 emissions as little as 101g/km with the 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission.

Those who prefer to go fast have the option of the 211hp CLA 250 petrol, which hits 0 to 62mph in 6.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 149mph. Fuel economy and CO2 emissions are 41.5mpg and 152 to 156g/km with the same transmission.

There is also a really fast version in the form of the CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake, which has a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that outputs 355bhp and 332lb/ft. 0 to 62mph takes a more impressive 4.7 seconds and the top speed is limited to 155mph.

Turning the CLA into a 4.6-metre long, five-seater Shooting Brake improves headroom by 4cm and access to the second row of seats. Boot space with the seats up is 495 litres (25 litres better than the saloon) and 1,354 litres with the rear seats folded down. A raked ‘cargo’ position increases the seats up space to 595 litres.

Eco stop/start is standard on all CLA Shooting Brake models so there’s no wasting fuel when stopped. Collision Prevention Assist Plus, which is said to ‘cut the number of serious rear-end collisions by 30 per cent compared with a car without the autonomous braking system, is also standard.

You also get the drowsiness detection Attention Assist, which uses a five-stage bar display to show your current attention level, and an electric tailgate. The optional load compartment package adds aluminium load rails and a lockable boot floor for extra secure storage space.

All-wheel drive is available initially on the CLA 250 4Matic and CLA 250 Sport 4Matic. You’ll have to wait until September 2015 for the diesel CLA 200 CDI 4Matic and CLA 220 CDI 4Matic models.

Inside is a 7-inch display, which can be upgraded to 8-inches for an improved infotainment experience. Depending on the spec, you can expect 18-inch alloy wheels, three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel, bi-xenon headlights and a panoramic sliding sunroof.

There’s no word on an exact UK price or spec, but based on the past you can expect to pay somewhere in the region of £25,500 for an entry-level model rising to £43,000 for the AMG 45.
