The BMW i8 now comes in loads of funky colours

BMW has extended its Individual Exterior Paint Programme to the i8, meaning you can now have the hybrid supercar in one of many new paintjobs.

Buyers have the choice of many new colours including Java Green, Speed Yellow, Solar Orange, Twilight Purple Pearl, Frozen Grey, Frozen Black, San Marino Blue and Grigio Telesto Pearl.

A variety of finishes are also available such as metallic, non-metallic and Xirallic, which uses a mixture of synthetic mica or aluminium flakes to make the paintjob stand out even more. There’s also frozen, which offers a ‘unique shimmer’ and a matt finish.

Access to the BMW Individual Exterior Paint Programme is available now from all i8 retailers, costing £5,495 for the privilege. The news follows in the footsteps of the Protonic Red Edition that will go on sale from September 2017.

“The BMW i8 embodies the accomplished vision of a modern and sustainable sports car. The new paintwork colours not only complement the BMW i8s emotive styling and design, they also work harmoniously with the BMW i brand and provide customers with exclusive personalised options,” BMW UK sales director Richard Hudson commented.

More than 1,400 BMW i8 supercars have been sold since going on sale in 2014 and it has since earned itself a number of awards, including Recombu Cars Best Performance Car.

The BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, which gives a combined output of 362hp and a 0-62mph time of 4.4 seconds.

It can go up to 23 miles on electric power alone, giving it CO2 emissions of 49g/km and fuel economy of 134.5mpg so not only is it fast, it is frugal too. A convertible version is on the cards, having been teased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas in January, 2016.

The team at Recombu Cars are big fans of the i8, which starts from £104,540. You can watch Rory Reid’s review here.
