Citroen has given the C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso a mid-life facelift and a host of new technologies aimed at making it a better family car.
Both the five-seater C4 Picasso and the seven-seater Grand C4 Picasso will go on sale in September 2016, each benefitting from a new front end, new 3D-effect rear lights and new rear chevrons finished in gloss black with a chrome surround.
The revised C4 Picasso also gets new 17-inch ‘Mamba’ alloy wheels and an optional black two-tone roof that also includes gloss black mirrors. The two-tone roof is available with all paintjobs, of which there are now three more to choose from.
Meanwhile the Grand C4 Picasso features new silver roof bars and a choice of new alloy wheel designs.
Buyers can spec one of four interior design schemes, including the same entry-level option as before and three new ones. Wild Blue is aimed at younger buyers who want ‘space and relaxation’, and Dune Beige, which is for those who want a bit more luxury and comfort and can be specced with full Nappa leather and a Relax Pack with massage seats.
Then there’s Hype Grey, which is for suited types who want a ‘business class experience’ and has Slate Grey half-leather upholstery, rear sunblinds and LED reading lights.
As with its predecessor, the new C4 Picasso has a range of petrol and diesel engines available, including a new three-cylinder PureTech 130 S&S petrol mated to a six-speed manual that offers up to 55.4mpg and 115g/km of CO2.
Then there’s a BlueHDi 120 S&S EAT6 mated to a six-speed auto rated at 102g/km and a BlueHDi S&S six-speed manual, which manages the most CO2-frugal 99g/km of the range.
When it comes to storing things, the C4 Picasso offers 537 litres of boot space rising to 630 litres with the rear seats in their most forward position. This increases to 645 and 704 litres, respectively, for the Grand C4 Picasso.
To keep the family safe, Citroen has added a host of new technologies including a Coffee Brake Alert, Speed Limit Sign Recognition and Recommendation, Driver Attention Alert, Active Lane Departure Warning, Active Blind Spot Monitoring, Active Cruise Control with Stop Function, Active Safety Brake (automatic emergency braking) and Collision Risk Alert.
On the subject of tech, the new Citroen Picasso comes with a new-generation seven-inch touchscreen that sits between the driver and front passenger.
Orders open from June 2016 before the car goes on sale from the 1st of September 2016. Expect full pricing details nearer the time.
