The new Ford Mustang performance figures you’ve been waiting for

The Ford Mustang is going on sale in the UK for the first time in its 50-year history, the news of which has kept us up at night since late 2014. But only now can we reveal those all important performance figures.

Two engines are available, a 2.3-litre EcoBoost and a more traditional 5.0-litre V8. The former can hit 0 to 62mph in 5.8 seconds, making it a bit of a force to be reckoned with, while emitting 179g/km of CO2 emissions and averaging 35mpg. Power output is 317PS.

The V8 can hit 0 to 62mph in 4.8 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating Ford coupe ever offered in Europe. Power output is 421PS and 530Nm of torque. Fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, meanwhile, come in at 299g/km and 20.9mpg, respectively, for the Fastback model and are slightly worse for the convertible. No word on a top speed for either engine.

Helping tame all that power is Launch Control for getting off the line as fast as possible, weight distribution of 54 per cent at the front for the V8 (53 per cent for the EcoBoost), four driving modes of varying insanity and three steering modes for adjusting the weight and feel.

Each UK car will come with the Ford Sync 2 infotainment system, 19-inch alloys, LED tail lamps, automatic HID xenon headlights, rear diffuser, dual-zone climate control and a nine-speaker sound system as standard. Ten exterior paintjobs are available.

Prices start from £28,995 for the EcoBoost Fastback rising to £38,495 for the 5.0 V8 GT with a six-speed automatic gearbox, both of which can be ordered now. More than 1,200 orders have been taken in the UK ahead of its arrival at dealerships in October.

Just in case you are especially cynical about performance figures, Ford has kindly made a video showcasing the 0 to 62mph, which you can watch as many times as you like below these very words.

Has it been worth the wait for a right-hand Ford Mustang? Stay tuned for our full review later in the year to get your answer.
