Subaru has announced the Levorg, a sport tourer that is the spiritual successor to the Legacy Tourer. It will go on sale in March 2015, having previously been available in Japan.
The Subaru Levorg is a similar size to the Legacy Tourer, but interior design trickey has freed up more space for legs, heads and elbows. Boot space is up to 522 litres with the rear seats up and 1,446 litres with them folded down.
Just one trim level will be available. All GT spec cars come with a 7.0-inch infotainment system with navigation, all-wheel drive, leather-trimmed sports seats with Levorg blue stitching, metallic paint, 18-inch dark grey alloy wheels and 60:40 split-folding and reclining rear seats.
There is also dual-zone air conditioning, rear parking camera, roof spoiler, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, four USB ports (two in the front, two in the back) and push-button start with keyless entry.
In terms of safety, Subaru has equipped the Levorg with a rear-vehicle detection system, blind spot detection and lane change assist. A five-star Euro NCAP rating is expected.
In addition to all-wheel drive, Subaru’s legendary handling credentials are carried through with Active Torque Vectoring, a system that slows the inside wheels to help get the car through a corner as quickly and safely as possible.
Meanwhile a 1.6-litre DIT Boxer petrol engine with 170PS and 250Nm of torque provides the same power as the old 2.5-litre Boxer, but is 36 per cent smaller. Fuel economy and CO2 are 164g/km and 40mpg, respectively, while 0-62mph takes 8.9 seconds. Gears are handled by a CVT Lineatronic transmission.
The Subaru Levorg GT will go on sale in September 2015, priced from £27,495.
