This is the 2015 BMW 6 Series and M6

BMW has kindly announced the entire new 6 Series line up in one fell swoop, allowing us to share with you details of the 6 Series Coupé, Convertible, Gran Coupé and the M6. Sitting comfortably?

The 6 Series has undergone a gentle facelift to keep it fresh. There’s a nine-bar kidney grille instead of the old ten bars as well as a new air intake, reprofiled front bumper, revised headlights with LED main beam as standard, reworked rear bumper and a fresh choice of alloy wheels ranging from 17- to 20-inches.

There are 640d, 640i, 650i and M6 models to choose from. The 640d diesel has 313hp, 630Nm of torque, 0 to 62mph time of 5.3 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. CO2 emissions and fuel economy are 139g/km 54.3mpg, respectively, in Coupé form.

The 640i petrol, meanwhile, has 320hp and 450Nm of torque. 0 to 62mph and the top speed are the same as in the diesel, while fuel economy takes a drop to 38.2mpg. CO2 is rated at 172g/km.

Up next is the 650i and its 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo, which gets a healthier 450hp and 650Nm, helping bring that 0 to 62mph sprint down to 4.6 seconds. Expect 155mph, 32.9mpg and 199g/km of CO2 emissions at best.

Last up is the mighty M6, which gets a ridiculous 560hp and 680Nm of torque. That’s substantially more than the M4 Coupé and Convertible and M3 Saloon. 0 to 62mph is, however, similar at 4.2 seconds, while 28.5mpg and 231g/km of CO2 means it will be more expensive to run.

BMW has seen fit to include a sports exhaust with a switchable valve for the petrol engines so there should be no complaints of an artificial engine note like in the M4. An eight-speed automatic is standard except on the M6, which gets its own seven-speed dual clutch M automatic and M-differential. Four-wheel drive can be specified at a cost and 75kg weight penalty.

In response to complaints over the interior quality, better materials have been used. Now you can expect a leather dashboard, high-gloss black centre console and a choice of either Dakota, Nappa or Merino leather trim. You also get ConnectedDrive on all models, which means full navigation and infotainment goodness.

A choice of five new metallic paintjobs for the Convertible and Coupé will be available, as well as a range of safety features including Active Cruise Control and Collision Warning with Braking – the latter able to stop the car without any input from the driver up to 37mph if a pedestrian steps out in front of the car.
