This is the Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition

Ford is celebrating its Le Mans prowess with a special edition version of the 2017 Ford GT known as the ’66 Heritage Edition.

The Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition is a nod to the number two Ford GT MKII that won the famous 24-hour race in 1966, with Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon at the wheel.

It is largely similar to the new Ford GT except for the body, which has been given a coat of Shadow Black and the same number two number as its 60s inspiration.

Buyers can specify whether the Shadow Black is of the gloss or matte variety to compliment the new silver stripes, exposed carbon and alloy wheels with a gold satin clearcoat.

The interior has been tweaked slightly too, with Ebony black leather and gold detailing complimenting seatbelts with blue webbing.

Apart from that, it’s business as usual. So buyers get the same 600-odd horsepower 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, carbon ceramic brakes, 20-inch alloys, 200mph-plus top speed and a 0-62mph sprint of around three seconds.

It is unclear how many of the special edition Ford GT will be built and how much it will cost. Reports have suggested somewhere north of £400,000.

Ford continued its success in Le Mans this year with the race car version of the supercar finishing in first place within its class. Drivers Joey Hand, Sébastien Bourdais and Dirk Müller were at the wheel of the Chip Ganassi-owned car.
