Turn your Nissan 350Z into a Ferrari California with this £5,000 kit

A German company might just have a viable solution for those who want to buy a Ferrari but are a little short on cash.

This may look like a slightly janky Ferrari California, but under those fibreglass curves lies a Nissan 350Z.

Providing you have a spare €6,499 (£5,158), a Nissan 350Z and a love of the Italian-built California, you can be driving around in your own fibreglass replica from FGP Productions. Its makers reckon you don’t need to be a welder or a mechanic to join the fun. The entire process, says FGP, can be done and dusted within a week.

The result, as you can see from the images, is pretty decent. Sure those alloys look absolutely atrocious compared to those that adorn the real deal but the overall package may be enough to fool the average passer-by. If they’re wearing glasses. And are really far away.

To get a more convincing result, you’ll need to splash out on replica wheels, a decent metallic paintjob, front and rear lights and a raft of flourishes that will likely bring the total cost in line with the price of a decent donor 350Z.

Of course, you’ll need to get over the mental hurdle of hiding away your Nissan 350Z, which is hardly an ugly car, and the fact the 350Z’s V6 sounds and goes absolutely nothing like the throaty V8 in the California.

So, it’s a niche product, but for those that love Ferrari and don’t mind the shame of being a total and utter fraud, it could be just the thing.
