Vauxhall will release a rival to the Mini and Fiat 500 in early 2013. The car, which was previously known by the codename “Junior”, will officially be known as the Vauxhall Adam.
The Vauxhall Adam will measure 3.7 metres in length, making it almost identical in size to the 3.72-metre Mini and noticeably smaller than its 3.9-metre Vauxhall Corsa cousin. It will be slightly longer than the 3.5-metre Fiat 500, so hopefully people who aren’t contortionists will be able to get into the back of it.
So far, no official pictures of the Vauxhall Adam have been released. However we know roughly what shape the car will take thanks to a slew of spy shots of a heavily camouflaged version of the car being put through its paces at the Nurburgring.
Little information about its design can be gleaned from the photos, but we do know the car will have 3 doors, 4 seats and will be heavily customisable in the same mould as the Citroen DS3. The firm says it will be “colourful, muscular, fun, cool and somewhat irreverent.”
We take that last bit to mean the horn will automatically play a recording of NWA’s “F the police,” every time you press it, though so far Vauxhall has refused to confirm this.
The Adam will will be based on the same platform as the next generation Corsa. We expect power to be provided by a range of small, efficient, petrol and turbo diesel engines, though exact details have not yet been released. We’re told Vauxhall will also make a model that uses a three- or two-cylinder engine to rival the Fiat 500 TwinAir.
The Vauxhall Adam will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in September. It will go on sale in early 2013 and will likely have a starting price of around £10,000. Stick around for more Vauxhall Adam news, photos and impressions in the near future.
