Vauxhall has announced five ‘important model launches’ will arrive in 2017, including the addition of a small SUV known as the Crossland X.
First up is a nameless C-segment SUV that will be ‘similar in size to the Astra and Zafira Tourer’ and has ‘an especially sporty design’.
The second model will be the Crossland X, another crossover that is designed to appeal to customers who want urban driving and long distance comfortable cruising in one four-wheeled package. It will arrive at start of 2017.
Then there is the Insignia Sports Tourer, which is said to borrow design cues from the 2013 Monza Concept. Cabin and boot space has been improved, but without interfering with a ‘lithe and rakish’ design.
An Insignia Country Tourer model is also coming, complete with all-wheel drive as standard and off-road looks to back up the added traction. Vauxhall says the Country Tourer will be ‘a genuine multi-task vehicle’.
Last but not least is the new Insignia Grand Sport, which Vauxhall is proudly calling its ‘flagship product’ and one that will have a coupe-esque silhouette, ‘huge driver appeal’ and ‘class-leading all-wheel drive’.
“2017 will be a landmark year for Vauxhall. Our portfolio will grow, for sure, but it’s the quality and innovation which underpins our new products that will surprise customers,” Vauxhall chairman and managing director Rory Harvey said.
“The Insignia Grand Sport will force buyers to reassess how they perceive our brand, and later in the year our two crossover offerings will bring Vauxhall to, in many cases, completely new sets of buyers,” he added. It is hoped the new range will give Vauxhall a more premium image.
The Vauxhall Astra is the second biggest seller in the UK, while the Corsa hatchback is in seventh place, according to the latest SMMT figures for October 2016.
