Vuhl 05: The Mexican missile headed for the UK

Mexico is responsible for an extremely potent spirit and has made tortillas acceptable for breakfast. Its latest gift to the world is the Vuhl 05 two-seater sports car.

The Vuhl 05 was only destined for the Middle East, but the UK is expected to be getting a limited number of the Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow rival. Exactly how many is unknown, but prices will start from £59,995 and the factory is only capable of 50 units a year so it will be a rare sight.

This is great news because the Vuhl 05 has a Ford 2.0-litre Ecoboost turbocharged engine tuned to 285bhp, giving it a 0-62mph sprint of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 152mph. If that fails to get the blood pumping there’s something wrong with you.

In standard form it weighs 695kg, but this figure can be lowered by 30kg if you front up for the carbon fibre body as opposed to the standard fibre glass, which means even more potent performance – and a larger repair bill if you end up in the hedge.

The UK version, the first units of which will be branded ‘edition one’, will have 300bhp, larger wheels and a unique interior and exterior finish, emphasising the already bonkers looks.

In case you were wondering, Vuhl is short for ‘Vehicles of ultra-light weight and high-performance’. The company was founded by two brothers, Guillermo and Iker Echeverria.

£60,000 might seem a lot for a car that treats a roof as a luxury, but a slightly faster Radical is £7,000 more expensive if you go for the 1.5-litre SR3 RSX model.

The first car is set to be delivered to a Mexican collector. Other markets around the world will also get a chance to buy Mexico’s fastest export. Pictures of the beast await.
