You can drive the new Mazda MX-5 in Forza Horizon 2

The traditional car launch is dead, it seems, as car manufacturers are instead making use of video games to unleash their creations to the world – the latest of which is Mazda.

The fourth-generation MX-5 will be made available to players ‘months’ before the car goes on sale in the UK. Xbox One owners who own the Forza Horizon 2 video game will be able to download the Mazda Car Pack and drive the new roadster as much as they want.

The Mazda Car Pack free download also includes the 1990 original car that got the ball rolling, creating a huge worldwide fanbase that includes Jeremy ‘fracas’ Clarkson.

You also get the 2010 MX-5 Super20 SEMA Show concept car and the 2005 Mazdaspeed MX-5, a limited edition, turbocharged model that was never sold in the UK. No doubt, then, there’s enough two-seater, open top motoring fun to keep you going. Minus the wind in your hair, of course.

Mazda has made the real-world MX-5 100kg lighter than its predecessor. It is powered by either a 1.5- or 2.0-litre Skyactive-G engine with 129 or 155bhp, respectively, with power sent to the rear wheels as is tradition for the model. A six-speed manual and a styling overhaul completes the package.

The Mazda Car Pack is said to be available now and can be retrieved from the Mazda landing page once signed into Xbox Live. Those who want to drive the real thing can pre-order now and expect to have it in time for the UK summer.
