If you have an Xbox One, a copy of Forza 5 Motorsport and want to drive a Spark-Renault race car from the new Formula E racing series, you are in the right place.
Forza Motorsport developer Turn 10 has announced it will be bringing the Spark-Renault SRT-01E to Forza 5 on the Microsoft games console, reportedly as part of an August car pack download.
The all-electric machine is powered by a 200kWh (266bhp) electric motor mounted to a body that weighs 888kg. The cars are electronically limited to 139mph, which is a bit low, but the instant torque should ensure the cars get there sharpish. Until the lithium ion batteries run out of juice.
There has been skepticism from petrolheads over the silence of electric race cars, but it’s hoped the inner-city race locations will provide something Formula One is currently unable to offer.
The Spark-Renault SRT-01E is hardly silent, anyway. It pumps out 80 decibels of supercharger-esque whining. Significantly less than the 134 decibels the V6 turbocharged F1 cars make and even less than the 145-decibel V8 F1 cars phased out last year, but better than nothing.
An interesting aspect of the Formula E is the ability to mention a racer on Twitter to give them a power boost on the final lap. All cars will run at 85 per cent of their maximum, with the final 15 per cent freed up by a bit of social network loving.
Other cars said to be part of the August downloadable content pack include the Vauxhall Astra 1.6-litre used by Top Gear for its ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’ feature, Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge edition, 2015 Ford Mustang and Rolls-Royce Wraith.
