Zagato Mostro pays homage to Maserati ‘Monster’

The Zagato Mostro has just exposed itself all over the Internet. Excuse us while we pick our jaws up off the floor.

This, friends, is the Zagato Mostro. Sexy isn’t it? Built to celebrate Maserati’s centenerary by italian coachbuilder Zagato, it doffs its uber-attractive cap to the 1957 Maserati 450 S Coupe Zagato ‘Monster’.

We’re ready to doff all our underwear.

All its bodywork is made from carbon fibre, so it’s reasonable to expect it’s bloody light. Power comes courtesy of a Maserati-sourced V8 engine of unspecified power, but given the Granturismo Sport’s 4.6-litre V8 chucks 460hp, it’d be silly to expect anything less than that figure and 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds.

That engine is paired to a semi-automatic six-speed transmission powering the rear wheels.

Like the Maserati 450 S Coupe, the Zagato Mostro is a racing car that’s also road legal – a track special you can drive to the circuit in, then back home again, although we can’t imagine any of its owners will put it in the line of fire – it’s simply too beautiful and too rare.

Zagato will build just five examples and all have been snapped up already. We don’t know how much they cost, but if you’re not one of the lucky quintuplet expeting them to arrive at the end of 2015 then it’s probably no skin off your nose.
