BBC Sport Windows Phone app kicks headlines to live tiles

Windows Phone owners can now keep a sneaky eye on sporting results this Christmas thanks to the new BBC Sport app.

The new app will push headlines to live tiles on the home screen of your Windows Phone, meaning you can surreptitiously keep tabs on scores during tedious social encounters with distant family members as well as getting the full breakdown later on.

You can’t stream live video footage on the app yet but you will be able to get up to the minute text updates on all FA Cup matches and other big sporting fixtures.

Sneak a look at the results when you should be filing your TPS reports.

Check out our feature ‘How can I watch the 2014/15 English FA Cup on TV?’The quick links tab lets you jump to specific sports including football, Formula 1, rugby union and league, tennis, golf and more.

In the new year, the BBC promises European Rugby Champions Cup scores and ball-by-ball cricket action from the World Cup in 2015.

Unfortunately right now it doesn’t seem like you can customise which headlines get pinged to your home screen. When we tested out the app we heard that ‘Up to 99% of Russian athletes guilty of doping’ which is good to know, but perhaps not great when what we really wanted was updates on the snooker last 16.

Hopefully this feature will be added by the BBC in a future update, along with support for live video streams.

You can download BBC Sport from the Windows Phone store now
