We haven’t been able to move for broadband, TV and phone bundles for years and 2014 has been no exception.
With the launch of new Big Bundles from Virgin Media, combining up to 152Mbps broadband with premium pay TV to Sky’s offer of two years free broadband there have been plenty of compelling deals on the plate this year.
But just like the Highlander, there can be only one. After arguing the toss about the best deals we’ve come to the conclusion that…
…TalkTalk Plus TV with Fibre takes it. Plus TV comes with seven Sky TV channels as standard and a free YouView-based smart TV box.
This gives viewers access to a growing collection of catch-up and on-demand apps that currently includes BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD (soon to be renamed All4) and Demand 5, as well as STV (in Scotland only) Dave on Demand, Quest and in the new year, Netflix. Connected Red Button is also heading to TalkTalk TV, which will let viewers tap into BBC services including news and weather.
The standard package costs just £8.50/month with £16.70 for standard line rental and you’ve got the option of adding in extra channels with the Kids Boost (Cartoon Network, Disney Channel), Entertainment Extra (Comedy Central, MTV) and Sky Sports (Sky Sports 1-5, Sky Sports F1) for £5, £15 and £30/month each.
TalkTalk’s Fibre Broadband packages provide top download speeds of 38Mbps, no traffic shaping and unlimited downloads as standard. Given that Fibre Broadband can be added to Plus TV from an extra £10/month, we’ve rated this the best bundle of 2014.
TalkTalk Plus TV with Fibre might not be the most extensive and speedy pay TV and broadband service but it’s also not the most expensive either. Aimed at customers who want something more than what you get with Freeview but don’t want to break the bank, Plus TV with Fibre offers real choice and value.
