BT Sport beermats appear in pubs, bar brawl with Sky Sports imminent

BT Sport has produced a series of beer mats and distributed them to UK pubs in a bid to get the locals thinking about the idea of watching it instead of Sky Sports prior to the big launch.

The mats have ‘Exclusively live Barclays Premier League matches next season’ and ‘Exclusively live Aviva Premiership Rugby matches next season’ printed on either side.

Due to kick off on British screens this summer, BT Sport promises to be a solid sports package, bringing football action from Europe, the US and Brazil, as well as the English and Scottish Premier Leagues.

BT Sport and Sky Sports will share live coverage of Aviva Premiership Rugby for the 2013-14 season with BT having exclusive coverage of all 69 live games for the 2014-15 season and the following three seasons.

Last week we heard that BT Sport was hoping to trigger a price war with Sky Sports over the fees charged to pub landlords for live sports licences. Sky Sports prices for publicans are a few extra pence above what you’d pay for Sky Sports in the comfort of your home. BT is specifically targeting the one in three pubs where Sky Sports operates as well as trying to look attractive to pubs and bars which haven’t taken up any form of live sports broadcasting.
