Crackle app launches in the UK: On-demand movies and films from Sony

Sony has launched its Crackle app in the UK, bringing on-demand movies and TV shows to connected Bravia TVs, Blu-Ray players and network media devices.

The app, also available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices, lets you access hundreds of films and TV series.

There’s a healthy selection of anime from Astro Boy to Samurai X and classic comedies that can be watched for free. Even more films and TV shows are available to those with Sony Entertainment Network subscriptions.

In addition to Crackle’s on demand platform, subscribing to Sony Entertainment Network lets you access Sony’s Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited platforms.

We’re not totally sure how (or why) this will sit alongside Sony Video Unlimited – another on-demand movie platform – but it’s nice to have the option of extra stuff.

“The addition of Crackle to the Sony Entertainment Network shows our commitment to develop the range of content available on Sony products,” said Edd Uzzell, Sony Category Development Manager. “All of our consumer products – whether that is a BRAVIA, VAIO, Tablet or Xperia – are designed to provide the best quality content possible, and having great content providers offers consumers greater choice for their home cinema experience.”

Head over to crackle.com for more info and the App Store and Google Play for the phone and tablet apps.
