Android 2.2 Froyo is full of tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot goodness

It looks like Google is going to take some serious jam out of Apple’s doughnut with the launch of Android 2.2, aka Froyo, next week.

As well as providing support for Flash 10.1, Froyo will also allow you to turn your Android phone into an impromptu USB data dongle or a Wi-Fi hot spot a-la-MiFi.

It’s entirely possible that networks carrying phones featuring Android 2.2, or any current 2.1/Eclair phones due for an upgrade will lock this feature out, or implement similar tethering price plans like those for the iPhone.

It’s expected that Android 2.2/Froyo and all of its singing dancing features will be unveiled during the upcoming Google I/O event in San Francisco, which kicks off next Wednesday the 19th of May.
